Internet Marketing Articles

Writers of internet Marketing articles have three objectives.

  1. To Brand themsleves
  2. To Generate traffic to their designated web sites/blogs
  3. To create backlinks to their designated web sites/blogs

To achieve these goals they need to get their articles:

  1. Accepted by the article directories
  2. Picked up and republished by eZine editors
  3. Read by end users

Thus the articles must appeal to all parties, if they are to have their desired effects.

This Hub Page will discuss six tips to getting your articles accepted, published and read.

Grab their attention and make them look

The purpose of your headline is to grab people's attention and get them to read your article. It is the single most important element of your article. Without their attention, you can't tell them anything else.

Appeal to their emotions and whenever possible be sure to use the keywords you want your article to be known for. Use strong statements, ask questions, challenge their percieved notions.

Once You Got Them Don't Let Them Go

The object of your headline is to get them to read the first sentence of your article. The object of the first sentence is to get them to read the next and so on.

Strive to create a flow within your article. Use good examples, descriptions and tell anecdotes when appropriate. People love stories.

Try to create word pictures using Like or as. Such as, the Idea at first seemed hazy like a dirty windshield, but as more facts were added the road forward became clear. Almost as if the haze were wiped away by the windshield wipers.

In general, it's best to focus on action verbs rather than descriptive adjectives. Verbs are powerful.

Use Short Paragraphs

Forget what you learned in school. When writing today for internet marketing purposes, you want to use very short paragraphs. Even if that means breaking a traditional paragraph into two or more parts.

The objective is to streamline the appearance of the page. To make it easy and quick to read.

Paragraphs can be a single sentence, even a single word.

Got it?

Make use of numbers or bullets

Numbers and bullet points make each point stand out. While it tends to equalize the value of the points itemized, it establishes the variety of points to be considered.

One advantage to numbers over bullets is that it psychologically compels the reader to continue down the list to the end.

It's always a good idea to indent the numbers or bullets. This adds white space and texture to the look of your article.

Use Subheadings to Divide Your Page

Subheadings serve to break up you page, and tell the reader what each section is about. Particularly online, many readers will skim an article. The Subheadings serve to convey the content, for these skimmers.

Many professional copy writers will make sure that the critical message of their overall page is effectively summarized in the subheadings on their own. Thus the person who merely skims the page will get an understanding of the entire page, even if they miss the details.

Authoritative Numbers

Using facts and figures can add authority to your article. But it can also choke it's readability. Use facts but don't overdo them.

A precise number like 12,317 is more authoritative than 12,000+. This is especially true in headlines and subheadings.

If your is a factual presentation, do what you can to keep it light, like a freindly teacher chatting with an eager student.
