How to Generate Free Traffic Online
60Without Traffic You Could Starve
In the internet marketing world, you could starve without a steady flow of traffic. No matter how great an offer you have, it will do you no good if no one ever sees it. But how to get traffic. You can always buy it. Give Google enough money and they will surely send you traffic via their pay per click program. And that may be all you need. However, most beginners and quite a few advanced players prefer to focus on generating free traffic. And that is what this hub will address.
I have a similar hub that specifically discusses The Turbo Traffic System
Opt In Forms and Optimization
On of the basic tools to get traffic is to make your blog, web page or lens findable. Today most people use one or another of the search engines like Google or Yahoo to find information. And once they find your site, you need a way to capture their emails so you can follow up with them.
To be successful with this approach to internet marketing you need to understand what words or phrases your ideal customer is likely to actually type into their search engine when looking to buy your product. These are called keywords.
Advanced marketers will distinguish between keywords that represent a person looking for information vs keywords a person may be looking to actually buy a product. For example, someone interested in a digital camera might type in "digital cameras" while a buyer might type in Cannon 280G or some other model number.
Once you have a handle on which keywords matter to your market, you want to set up your pages to focus on the particular keyword phrase you want to attract people to.
There are many steps to this process which include both on page and off page factors.
The on page factors include making sure the meta tags are set up properly on your page. Meta tags are the invisible code behind your page. It's my experience that these are seldom done correctly as many web designers are actual oblivious to the marketing needs of their customers.
I have written two ebooks on the topic, most notably, "Why Most Small Business Web Sites Stink" and "Main Street Rises to the Top of the Search Engines." I have a combo deal where you can get the one free when you buy the other. Between these two eBooks, you will get a solid review of the key factors you need to understand to maximize the marketing effectiveness of your website. Go here to get your copies.
Cross Promotion
One of the best ways to promote your page so that it ranks higher in the search engines is to cross promote it using other vehicles such as other blogs, Squidoo lens, Hub pages etc. Here the objective is two fold. First to be in many places so more people can find you. Second, and perhaps even more important, to create back links to your site from elsewhere on the internet. These back links are of critical importance as they help build credibility for your site in the robotic eyes of the Google and other search engines "Bots" which roam the internet. These links play a significant role in how high the search engines rank your site. Generally the more back links you have, the higher your site will rank for your chosen keyword.
For example, one of my objectives with this Hub Page is to promote a new blogger blog on the same topic. That's why I am including a link to it here. Generate Free Traffic
This link uses my keyword I want my blogger blog to rank for, ie "Generate Free Traffic." The actual blog title is Generating Free Traffic, but in my keyword research I determined that I had a better chance of ranking high on the term "Generate Free Traffic" so that is why I am focusing on that term.
